Dear Parents,

Summer for our children is a time for fun and relaxation, but it should not mean taking a break from reading. Studies show that most students experience a loss of reading skills over the summer months, but children who continue to read actually gain skills. If possible, efforts should be made during the summer to encourage your child to read for enjoyment.

For your convenience, I have compiled a summer reading list broken down by grade level. The books listed on the following pages come highly recommended, and your child should find them interesting and enjoyable.

I also wanted to mention a website that you can use over the summer called

www.bookadventure.com

Book adventure is a FREE reading motivation program where children can create their own book lists from over 6,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they’ve read offline, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes. This program was created by the Sylvan Learning Foundation.

If you need to contact me for further recommendations, please do not hesitate to stop by the Library or contact me at the number listed below.

**NOTE** The following suggestions are for children entering the next grade level. For example---the first-grade list is for Kindergartner’s going into the first-grade. The second-grade list is for first-graders going to the second grade etc…

Thank you,
