Welcome! I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I look forward to an amazing year full of learning and fun with my students. Second grade is my favorite grade to teach!
Background:
I grew up in Tulsa and I am a former Carnegie student! I attended Oklahoma State University. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Studies. My specialization was Learning Disabilities.
I taught 1st and 2nd grade at Carnegie for 3 years and then decided to stay home for awhile to raise my family. I am married and have 3 children: Emily is 17, Christopher is 15, and Conner is 8. I returned to Carnegie 4 years ago. I spent the first 3 years being the coordinator and teacher for the Gifted program at Carnegie. This is my 2nd year to be part of the 2nd grade team!
Second Grade Important Information:
We have tests every Friday in 2nd grade over our Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.), maps, spelling, reading, and math. We will also have tests in Social Studies and Science upon completion of units of study.
We take 2 field trips in 2nd grade – Will Rogers Memorial/Birthplace in the fall and the Oklahoma Aquarium in the spring. We also participate in Art Sparks, Junior Achievement, and the Master Gardener program.
Homework – I follow the homework policy listed in the handbook. Each student is required to do the homework listed on their assignment sheet. Please sign the sheet and leave it in your child’s folder each night after you check the homework.
In 2nd grade there are no birthday celebrations (no snacks, but pencils are fine). You need to mail birthday invitations unless everyone in the class is receiving one. Also, no Halloween costumes are allowed.
