Dear teachers, parents, and families:
Welcome to the Carnegie family! I am Krista Blanche, principal of Carnegie Elementary.
The Carnegie team and I are eager to welcome and embrace all new students and families. Through collaborative efforts with principal Kristen Smith and Principal Shalise Jackson of Key elementary, we are working to ensure all Grimes students and families have a smooth transition.
We have laid out the following plans to provide love and care for the students we will receive. First and foremost, we have devised a welcoming committee to oversee our outreach efforts. We plan to distribute welcome packets to families in the community personally door to door.
We are working to create buddy families to match incoming families with students in the same grade as well as buddy teachers for teachers in the same grade so that there will be an ease of transition. We are also working with Principal Smith to be sure we understand and can provide support for all student needs.
The mission of Carnegie Elementary School is to provide a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through developmentally appropriate instruction. Our school promotes a safe, orderly, nurturing, and supportive environment that exposes our students to unique learning opportunities that equip them for future successes.
The vision of Andrew Carnegie Elementary is to immerse students in rigorous educational experiences that grow the whole child (academically, socially, physically, and emotionally). We promote college and career readiness, multicultural learning, and take pride in our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) programming. At Carnegie Elementary, students "Rise to Excellence."
We make reading fun at Carnegie! Students can earn free dress days by reaching their reading goals. They also have the opportunity to participate in Reading with Paw Pals and to practice their skills by reading to furry friends who come to visit our library.
At Carnegie, we strive to educate and nurture the whole child through social-emotional learning; encouraging our students and their families to live an active, healthy lifestyle. We work hard to foster a sense of belonging among our students and families and have a tight-knit school community.
We are deeply immersed in STEAM programming here. Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics are integrated into the core curriculum at Carnegie. Instruction is project-based, and we focus on making real-life connections to what students are learning in the classroom. Our STEAM Lab gives students a chance to get hands-on experience in these curricular areas. It prepares them to move on to Memorial Junior High School, which offers a top-notch engineering and robotics program.
We offer a variety of programs and clubs here, including Drama Club, Chess Club, Chinese after-school program, Junior Achievement program, Math Club, Run Club, Young Rembrandts, and Robotics Club.
We look forward to welcoming our new classmates in the 2020-2021 school year!
